There once was a hungry wolf wanting to eat sheep. One particular shepherd and his dogs watched over the sheep so well the wolf couldn't steal any. The plot of a play, novel or other work of literature is the basic structure of the story. It encompasses the chain of events and character actions that lead to the conclusion or plot resolution. When writing an essay on the plot of a story, there are several different angles you can take, so long as the overall focus is on the structure.

In the interpretation step, we examine obstacles, the climax, and the resolution of the plot. This is taking the comprehend step deeper and digging into the analysis of different parts of the story. Creating a timeline gives us a good visual of the plot.
